A Telengana revenue officer,V. Lavanya who was awarded the state’s ‘Best Tahsildar’ has come under the focus of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Recently, the residence of the revenue officer was raided. Officials recovered several lakhs and 400 grams of gold from her residence in Hayathnagar. Disproportionate assets amounting to Rs. 1.07 crore was recovered.
Ms. Lavanya is a revenue officer posted in the Ranga Reddy district of Telengana. This is the first time that such a huge haul has been seized from a Government employee. Lavanya’s husband, Venkattesh Nayak works in the Municipal administration department.
Raids were ordered by the authorities after another revenue officer, Antaiah was fond taking a bribe of Rs.4 lakhs from a farmer for correcting land records. Antaiah works under Ms. Lavanya.The farmer alleged that he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs. 8 lakhs – Rs. 5 lakhs for Ms. Lavanya and Rs.3 lakhs for him. After taking the bribe, Antaiah informed his superior. The Anti-Corruption Bureau authorities then questioned Ms. Lavanya. She now faces charges of corruption and a fall from grace.
