Former opener for Team India, Gautam Gambhir recently lauded former Indian captain M.S. Dhoni for his decision to take up his stint in the Indian Army. “I have always maintained that if one is to wear the uniform of an Army personnel, then one should do something for them,” said Gambhir.
The former skipper and much-loved cricketer chose to skip the tour of West Indies and instead chose to serve in the Army, being an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment and has proceeded to serve with the battalion. The former Indian skipper is already a trained parachuter and now will be performing the duties of patrolling, guard and post-duty, stay with the troops.
Gautam Gambhir said that he had always been of the opinion that M.S. Dhoni should do something for the defense forces, and should wear the uniform of the Territorial Army. ” Now Dhoni has kept it in front of the country, and he is serious about it. He wants to serve his Army and hats off to him. His decision to serve the Army, to go to Kashmir and do patrolling, is a historic step which will motivate the youth as Dhoni is a huge role model for them,” he added. The talented former opener and BJP MP was appreciative of Dhoni for his decision.
