Jammu and Kashmir is slowly being rejuvenated in the wake of the lock-down that was imposed with severe security restrictions in the region after the Central Government repealed Article 370, that scrapped special status of autonomy to the former state. There has been a ‘black-out’ with all communication lines down, and media restricted.
A petition filed in the Supreme Court requesting for lifting of restrictions on media and lock-down was being reviewed by the apex court. The Center told the top court that the ground situation was being reviewed on a daily basis and that the top court must trust the security agencies. The media too has been under the lock-down and have been restricted from publishing any news. of the situation in the region.
Schools and government offices are to resume from Monday. The government is also set to restore landlines in a phased manner. The authorities have lifted restrictions on movements of people in Srinagar. However, the restrictions have not been lifted in the Valley and Section 144 continues to be imposed.The restrictions were imposed on August 5th, 2019.
