The world's population is all set to soar to new heights, with an increase from the current 7.6 to 9.8 billion, by 2050. India will reportedly overtake the population of China in just seven years.
Nigeria is slated to overtake the United States by 2050, to become the third most populous country in the world. According to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the upward trend in the size of the population is expected to continue. Sources state that approximately 83 million people are added to the world's population every year. Although fertility levels will continue to decline, the world's population will peak at 11.2 billion by 2100.
India's population, holding at second position, is currently holding at 1.3 billion inhabitants,with China leading with 1.4 billion people, that India is expected to surpass by 2024. Nigeria is growing rapidly, and the population in 26 African nations are expected to double by 2050.
The number of people above the age of 60, are expected to more than double by 2050, and triple by 2100. The ageing population is expected to rise in huge numbers by 2100.
