The national capital has never made the mark in terms of clean air. New Delhi has always registered as a city that has been under siege from pollution, heavy fog and health hazards. This part of the year, Diwali notwithstanding, is especially a crucial period for Delhiites as the air turns heavier, and a noxious blanket of a grey-brown smog settles over the city, and pollution attains unbelievable heights.
The wildfires that are raging in California, U.S., are deadly and appear to have no hurry of letting up. The fires have been fanned by powerful, hot and dry winds that have developed because of the atmospheric patterns during this season.
Although the impact of these winds are not certain, scientists feel that global warming may be the reason for drier winds. The winds, known as Diablo winds in Northern California and Santa Ana winds in the south, have their base in parts of Utah and the high desert of the Great Basin of Nevada.
