Amid massive outrage in Maharashtra over the killing of four siblings at a village in Jalgaon’s Raver taluka, police have reportedly added sexual assault charges based on circumstantial and scientific evidence. The four kids aged between six to thirteen were hacked to death allegedly by axe on Thursday when their parents had gone to Madhya Pradesh for the funeral of a family member. All four kids were found in a pool of blood on Friday morning.
“Police are yet to make any arrests. However, they have added rape charges to the murder case, based on circumstantial and scientific evidence,” NDTV reported quoting sources. The police have registered cases under sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and listed charges including rape and murder.
Meanwhile, police have detained a few suspects but they are yet to make any arrest. Speaking with reporters Inspector General of Police Pratap Dighavkar said, “We are verifying the evidence. Our investigation is progressing well. We should be able to make arrests soon.”
State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who visited Jalgaon on Saturday, expressed hope of a quick headway in the ongoing investigation. “probe is moving in a positive direction and arrests will be made soon,”he told reporters. The minister also instructed the collector to provide the family with a ration card, caste certificate, a house under Gharkul scheme and land for farming.
According to police, the parents had left the younger children in the care of their landlord, whose banana farm they live on and cultivate. When the farm owner visited the house in the morning, he was shocked to find the four siblings lying in a pool of blood. He alerted the villagers as well as the police, they added.
