Red Corner Notice for Nehal Modi

The Central Government has been trying to get diamantaire Nirav Modi extradited from the United Kingdom, where his arrest in London, where he was spotted on the streets in Mayfair, garnered headlines. Nirav Modi has been remanded to custody until September 19.

Modi has been lodged in the Wandsworth prison in south-west London since his arrest in March this year based on an extradition warrant by the Scotland Yard, on charges brought about by the Indian Government. Modi has appealed for bail and has been rejected several times by the UK High Court.

In connection with the crime committed by Nirav Modi, in connivance with his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi, allegedly cheating the Punjab National Bank of Rs.14,000 crore through issuance of fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) throuhg a Mumbai branch of the bank, the Interpol has now issued a Red Corner Notice against his brother, Nehal Modi.

Nehal Modi is a native of Antwerp, Belgium. The global arrest warrant has been issued on charges of alleged money laundering which is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Nehal Modi has been named in the chargesheet for destruction of evidence.

Nehal knowingly and intentionally helped his brother Nirav divert money to shell corporationsand also destroyed evidence present in dummies of shell corporations set up by Nirav Modi in Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Hong Kong, UAE, USA and other countries. Communications between these shell companies were carried out through secret servers based in UAE, which Nehal destroyed, as it contained secret e-mails created specially for illegal LoUS from PNB.
